After the dedicated work by an army of volunteers over a number of years, GalleryOnTrack is now officially open. The gallery was opened last night by the Honorable Pru Goward, Member for Goulburn in front of a large crowd. Pru has been a wonderful supporter of Galleryontrack and gave an inspiring speech about the need for community. Gallery Treasurer & Project Manager, Robyn Primrose entertained us with the history of how we got from no building to an amazing arts & crafts centre. Goulburn Mayor Geoff Kettle also lent his valued support, as did Matthew Lawrence from IMB Building Society. A great night was had by all and many talented local artists sold their work.
Local wines donated by the local wineries were thoroughly enjoyed by the guests. A special thanks to Kingsdale Wines just outside of Goulburn (on the way to Crookwell), .Yarralaw Springs Wines at Quialigo and Lerida Estate wines (near Collector). After sampling what the local wineries have on offer I’m converted! When local produce is so good why buy outside of this great area!
A very special thankyou to all the committee heads – Robyn Primrose (Treasurer and project manager), Lynette Brown (Secretary & operations), Anna Shead (Fundraising), Diane Sanna (General committee), Marolyn Turner (General Committee), Carol Divall (Display), Elaine (Selection Committee), Linda Hong (Garden Committee). Each of these wonderful women have contributed in their own wonderful way with their own time, strengths & talents. Galleryontrack has gotten where we are now because of them all!
Thankyou to those who have tirelessly given their time generously to make this centre for community creativity happen – Brian Dival for years of coming to the gallery and tirelessly being our handyman – hanging tracks, doing skirtings, painting, lighting etc. Anna Pye for her enormous help with funding applications & the garden committee. Daphne Gooley for moulding & casting the vents, tiling, grouting, assisting in every way she can. To Perc Carter for the ongoing photography & powerpoint presentations. Ekaterina for her desktop publishing, those who have worked on the logos. To the many who have come to working bees, committee meetings, and general cleanups. To recent past president Mary Ferguson, for her assistance as well.
Thankyou to all those who helped out on the night, from Trevene Mattox for organising all the catering, to her band of helpers ; Dot Ellaray, Heather Kerr, etc, to her daughter Trassa & friend who manned the bar. Fiona Hammond who sold raffle tickets, Kathy Geurts and friend who manned the cash register. Thankyou Angela Saliba who braved the cold to direct cars in the car park. Anna Pye & Rachel Mayne who put up the signage. Also thankyou to the many who made the donations for the raffle – $200 gift voucher from Arthead in Goulburn, Walter Brecely – earrings, Brenda Clough – silver pendant, Kevin Dwyer – timber box, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery – pair porcelain beakers, Linda Hong $100 & $50 gift vouchers, Bruce Pryor for pottery, Kathy Geurts - brooch.
To all the tradesmen who cheerfully worked hard on the building and contributed beyond what they charged Galleryontrack – a huge thankyou. As I get all their links will post and add - Divalls Earthmoving,
Many thanks to Roadwatch Australia who generously donated the wheelstops for our car park. To Telstra CEO Mr David Thodey who helped expediate our phone connections. Last but not least Goulburn Woolworths who also contributed $30 to our opening.
A special thanks also to many of those who helped instigate this special project. Elizabeth Brown from STARTS has been incredibly helpful with setting up GDAC with a business plan & constitution.
If you didn’t get to the opening last night Galleryontrack is open from 10am – 4pm today. Please drop in and have a look, the building is beautiful and the artworks amazing. If you are not a member there are membership application forms available there (ask at reception). If you join now you get 13 months membership (till the end of the 2012/13 financial year) for the price of 12 (only $30). If you are a member please put your name on the roster as we need more people to help operate the gallery. As well as supporting a great community enterprise, by being on the roster you get a discounted commission on the sale of your artworks (20% instead of 35%). The gallery will then be open Wednesdays to Sundays on a weekly basis, from 10am to 4pm each day.
