May 2024: Exhibition - Jessica Norris "Studies in colour and weaving"
|
Jess moved to the Goulburn / Southern Highlands region just prior to the outbreak of Covid. Since then, she has deepened her existing love of weaving with an intensive study, devoting many enjoyable hours to understanding the interplay of colour, texture and structure in fabric.
“Colour and weave” techniques use combinations of dark / light yarns in both warp and weft. These interact in unexpected ways with the underlying weave structure, creating beautiful and unique patterns. This exhibition hopes to show “behind the scenes”, so that people can appreciate the complexity, skill and design that goes into making woven items. We rely on textiles in every aspect of our lives, but we frequently take them for granted. What would we do if there were no factories producing cheap cloth for us? Hand woven textiles are unique and beautiful, but they are not “just for best”! They are meant to be used, loved, repaired, and then (eventually) composted once their usefulness is done. That’s why Jess chooses natural fibres such as wool, cotton, silk and bamboo. The exhibition will show from 1 May to 26 May 2024 at Gallery on Track during Gallery opening hours. Join us for the exhibition opening on Saturday, 4 May 2024 at 2pm. All welcome. See three beautiful examples of the creative work by Jess below and download the flyer located in the Scibd box: |
